Sustainability Actions
- It has been suggested by enviro schools who did a survey of the site that we needed to plant 150 trees a year to offset our carbon footprint, to date this has been our contribution.
- 2007 Planted 100 trees in the wetland area at Hannahs Bay.
- 2007 Established a hydroponic unit capable of producing 600 lettuce’s and herbs. This cuts down our Co2 emissions through delivered product and provides a fresh chemical free product for our guests.
- 2008 Liaised with SBS and Mokoia Island for 1,000 native trees to be planted on the Island.
- 2008 Planted 75 trees in the wetland area at Hannahs bay.
- 2008 Planted 14 fruit trees at Keswick in the shape of Papatuanuku (Koro) symbol of new life, these will be added to as finance permits. The orchard will be self sustaining by the design, added comfrey which was planted and fertilized by worm tea and vermicast from the worm farms on site.

- 2008 Planted a wetland garden to soak up excess water from downpipes and reduce Co2.
- 2008 a small worm farm was established.
- 2008 a no dig garden was designed and established to provide the kitchen with essential herbs.
- 2008 An annual survey was carried out by Catalyst R&D to measure our cumulative emissions; we had a total of 30.08.
- 2008 Established 3 compost bins to take kitchen and garden waste, each removable slat has been painted to indicate what materials are required for correct layering.
- 2008 All lights in the Lodge were replaced by energy saving bulbs; this will progress through the camp as other bulbs die.
